Group Counseling
Group counseling is an important part of any program of recovery. Our recovery groups are open to…
Individuals seeking initial outpatient treatment that don’t require detox.
Individuals seeking ongoing support maintaining their current program of recovery. You do not have to complete primary treatment with us to attend one of our groups.
Individuals who wish to access a recovery community, but don’t feel comfortable attending traditional 12-Step groups..
Mondays & Thursdays
4:30-6:00 PM
740 Prince Ave. Bldg 14 Athens, GA 30606
We offer 2 groups per week, Mondays and Thursdays, at our office. Groups are 90-minutes and cost $45/group. Clients may attend one or both depending on need.
You don’t have to do this alone. A community of recovering people is available to you now.
People are often hesitant to try group therapy for fear that they might be judged by fellow group members. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the primary benefit of group therapy is that through interaction with peers, you learn that you are not uniquely defective - that others are struggling just like you are.
There is also the benefit of collective experience. In group counseling, peers offer respectful feedback so that everyone can learn from each other’s mistakes and successes. In doing so, group members develop a sense of purpose and meaning; a sense that what they’re going through is valuable to others.
Finally, there’s the benefit of accountability. When you have a group of peers who want to see you succeed, odds are you won’t want to let them down. Many people find themselves relapsing over and over despite a strong desire to quit. This is usually a result of substance-induced changes to a person’s neurobiology. The urge to use simply overrides reason. This is why it’s so difficult to recover in isolation. Relying on your own brain, the one that’s been hijacked by substance use, isn’t very effective. Group therapy creates the opportunity to borrow other’s insight and support as your brain heals and you gain a greater sense of control.
